Travellers subject to the Schengen visa requirement

The nationals of the following countries are subject to the visa requirement to enter or transit in the Schengen area.

* The nationals of these countries will be exempted from the Schengen visa requirement from the date of entry into force of an agreement on visa exemption to be concluded with the European Community.

Travellers subject to the airport transit visa requirement by all Schengen countries

However nationals of the above countries will not be subject to the airport transit visa (ATV) requirement if they hold a residence permit of Ireland, the United Kingdom or the Liechtenstein or a residence permit of Andorra, Japan, Canada, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland or the United States of America and guaranteeing an unqualified right of return. The flight crew, who are nationals of a country party to the Chicago Convention, are also exempted from the ATV. For Benelux, Spain and France, holders of diplomatic or service passports are exempted from the ATV.

(1) For Italy. The following persons are exempted from the ATV requirement: nationals in possession of a valid visa for a Member State of the EU or for a State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area of 2 May 1992, Canada, Japan, Switzerland or the United States of America, or when they return from these countries after having used the visa.

(2) For Germany: holders of diplomatic or service passports are exempted from the ATV.

(3) For the Benelux countries, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. The following persons are exempted from the ATV requirement: nationals in possession of a valid visa for a Member State of the EU or for a State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area of 2 May 1992, Canada, Japan, Switzerland or the United States of America, or when they return from these countries after having used the visa.
